When I was working as a software engineer, I constantly saw my male colleagues getting opportunities to speak at technology events, while me and my female colleagues did not participate. It didn't feel right. I knew that we had just as much knowledge and experience to share as they did. But for some reason, we weren't taking the same opportunities.
So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I started by speaking. Then, I started encouraging other women to speak. I created the 5 Day Speaker Challenge to encourage and enable more women to speak at technology events. I wanted to set the precedence and show that we are just as capable as our male counterparts.
Since launching the challenge, we've had an overwhelming response from women all over the world who want to participate. It's been so gratifying to see more women taking the stage and sharing their knowledge with the world.
